The Blessing of Giving

Pastor Rich & Kat
IIt’s simple. It’s short. Yet it’s incredibly powerful. Is it always better to give than to receive. We always have heard it is better to give than receive. Most of us seem to have no problem giving that is to a certain extent. We also have no problem receiving under certain circumstances. This month the Lord has specifically shown me both of these areas. There are a few wonderful people in my life who give, and give and give but have the hardest time receiving. I too realized recently I had a hard time receiving. We were blessed with a wonderful family giving of their expertise and time in helping with some work for free. I felt very oblige to pay them back somehow. My husband said the family would  not accept payment. Somehow I could not accept this. I was determine to find a way to pay them a monetary gift. My husband sternly said no honey you can’t do this.

Don’t Lean on Your Understanding

Amazingly, the Lord had another wonderful friend who I was trying to show kindness to in the same manner. In a way I felt my kindness was  a lessor gift of giving. They too wanted to pay me. I also said no. They insisted. Although I said no they decided to stash some cash on my car dash. Anyhow, I just frowned when I found money later that day. When I had the chance I told them I was disappointed and wanted them to receive the blessings. It was then the Lord told me why was it so hard for me to receive the blessing he sent my way. Yes and Yes the Lord absolutely wants you to give. 2 Corinthians 9:7 States, You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” However, lets not forget God also states He wants you to receive. He wants you to be bless and be bless abundantly. There are many scriptures about the many ways he wants to bless us. Luke 6: 38 is one scripture: Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Sometimes he wants to bless us through people. I also had to reexamine this area of my life.

Instead, Acknowledge God. In Everything.

I am now ready to acknowledge God in everything and this includes receiving. I am thankful for these friends. I pray the Lord blesses them back. I now know it’s not my job to re-compensate every friend who blesses me. Although I was tempted to take the Lords place here. I am willing to admit my struggle and ask the Lord to forgive me and yield to his Holy Spirit to lead and guide me. Family of God, Be sensitive to know where we are to bless. Look for opportunities to bless people with your gifts and talents. Be ready to receive blessings of others gifts and talents. God is so ready to bless you too. I pray this small article reminds you to not only to be a blessing and give but to openly receive the blessings. If you can’t relate because it seems like nothing ever good seems to happen for you remember God’s promises are Yes and Amen. He loves you and has not forgotten all of your sowing. He hears your prayers. You also will be bless in due season.

Let’s break down this life-changing truth to make sure we understand it.

Even as we write this article, we recently had a friend go home to be with the Lord. The Lord provided us with many who provided their gifts of worship, service in media, set-up, time….etc…for the memorial service. God prepared us for a time to receive an abundance of help as we needed to receive during this time. There was so much given no amount of money or even words could possibly give back the thanks my family or my friends family felt during this time. Yet the Lord knew exactly what was needed. He knows brothers and sisters, He came swiftly in our hour of need, He will come in yours. Be encourage and don’t give up hope,  be blessed as your blessings are nearer than you think.
